A Maryland school district is now in the solar farm business. WBAL TV reports that the Anne Arundel County public school district recently completed a 4000 panel solar farm in Pasadena Maryland.
The panels will reportedly produce 2,000 megawatt hours of energy yearly and it’s estimated that the district could save close to two million dollars over the next two decades.
The project was financed by a Standard Solar and they will operate and maintain the solar farm.
State Delegate, Pamela Beidle told WBAL TV, “They really do have a budget crisis. It’s wonderful to see them find ways like this to save some money and do something right for the environment.”
The Anne Arundel school district has 82,000 students and 125 schools.
“We have more than 13.4 million sq. feet of space and a $26 million utility budget,” Superintendent George Arlotto said in a statement.
The school district says the project is expected to offset more than 41,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide over its life. That is equivalent to driving a car around the earth 3,971 times during that time, or one year of carbon dioxide emissions from 4,357 homes.
